Frequently Asked Questions

Membership at PFF is free of charge. The advantages of membership are that you can participate in discussions and also use the areas such as the gallery, market and the calendar etc. for your own content. Membership is free of charge and not bound to any obligations.

To become a member, you must first register. To do so, click on "REGISTRATION" at the top right. Then the terms of use have to be accepted and further details have to be provided.

Procedure after registration

After registration an activation mail will be sent to the deposited mail address. The link in this mail must be clicked. Afterwards the registration will be checked manually by the PFF team and - if everything fits - activated. You will be informed by e-mail.

Please note: Please be patient for the manual activation. This usually takes a few minutes. Depending on the time of day, it may take a while.

After registration, an activation email will be sent to the email address entered during registration.

If this has not arrived, there are only two possible causes:

1. The activation mail has ended up in the spam filter. Please check the spam folder in your mail programme.
2. The e-mail address used for registration was incorrect, so that the activation e-mail could not arrive.

If you visit the PFF pages and are logged in (but not yet activated), you will see the following notice at the top directly under the menu bar in the PFF:

Here you have to click on Complete the activation process. On the page that opens, you can enter the registration code manually. Since this is exactly the problem, you must select Request new activation code below.

Request activation mail again

To request the activation mail again, you must enter the user name and password you set yourself during registration on the following page. The field "e-mail address" can be left blank, in which case the activation e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address selected during registration. However, if you are unsure whether a spelling mistake has crept in, you should enter your correct e-mail address here again to be on the safe side.

The activation e-mail will then be sent. If it does not arrive again, it can only be because the e-mail has been filtered by your mail programme. Please check the spam folder.

The PFF is a very large community. The overall tone is very respectful, which is certainly also due to the fact that you have to register with us with your full name and address, which creates a certain commitment.

Nevertheless, it is important that moderators (PFF Team) have a tool to deal effectively with problems - the warning system. Similar to the traffic register, penalty points can be assigned. These expire after a certain period of time and have various consequences once a certain number of points has been reached:

• Hint: 0 points (so to speak an insistent, friendly hint).
• Yellow card: 1 point
• Red card: 2 points
• Reprimand: 4 points

Note: In cases of hardship, especially if there has been a deliberate attempt to harm the PFF or if it can be assumed that the warning will not bring about a rethink, we reserve the right to impose a permanent ban directly.

The points expire automatically after 6 months. The consequences depend on the number of points:

• 2 points: 3 days exclusion
• 3 points: 10 days exclusion
• 4 points or more: Permanent suspension

Note: The warnings are not publicly visible, no one is to be pilloried. Only the users who have been warned and the PFF team have insight.

A: the data was not complete, or

B: it was an error on our part.

In most cases, A is the reason why registrations were rejected. A rejected registration cannot be restored because all data of the registration has been deleted. The only thing left to do is to register again.

If it is B, i.e. an error on our part, then we can no longer change anything for the above reasons (the data have been irretrievably deleted). Mistakes are human and can happen. In this case, I apologise - and ask you to register again.

Have you forgotten your password and/or your user name? Then you can have the system send it to you.

Click on "REGISTRATION" in the top right-hand corner. You will then find the link "Forgotten password" below the two input fields. A page will then open where you can enter your user name and/or e-mail address, depending on what you have forgotten. The corresponding data will then be sent to the e-mail address you entered.

First, go to the Control Centre at the right top, then select Settings and Privacy:

The submenu Administration must then be selected.

To change the password

On the page there is a field to change the password, for security it must be repeated. Please note, the password must also be entered in order to change it:

The address can be changed at the top right in the Control Centre under the menu item Edit Profile:

On the page that opens, the address data can be changed.

To cancel the membership, write us a message via "Contact". We will delete the account and the personal data stored there. The contributions will not be deleted, otherwise they would lead the sense (discussion process) ad absurdum. We ask for your understanding here.

It is well known that decisions cannot be made 100%, it is always a weighing. Therefore, a public discussion on moderation decisions can not be purposeful, because there are always pros and cons. For this reason we prevent this - we might as well give up moderation then. You have been warned or your post has been taken out? Then we recommend a short period of reflection until a reaction from your side should take place.

We are only human, mistakes happen to us too. If you think that our decision was not correct, please contact us directly via the contact form ("Contact" at the bottom of the page).

After submitting a content, you still have 30 minutes to adjust it. After that, no further editing is possible.

Desktop / Laptop

To edit a post, click on "edit" in the lower right corner. After you have edited the text, you have to click on "save" below the text field.

Smartphone / Tablet

On mobile devices, the view is somewhat compressed to save space. At the corresponding post it is necessary to click on the three dots next to them. A menu will open where you can select "edit". After editing you have to select "save" under the text field.

In the past, people spoke of so-called "netiquette" on the internet. This sensitised people to the peculiarities of online forums. For example, the facial expressions of the other person are missing in communication - jokes can be taken the wrong way, etc. In the meantime, we are more familiar with the internet, but I would still like to point out a few things:

1. There are no "stupid" questions. Newcomers should therefore not be afraid to ask questions. Also, we meet here in PFF at eye level. This means that friendly and respectful interaction is required and can be expected - regardless of whether it is a long-standing user, a newcomer or a moderator.
2. However, if there are any problems in dealing with people, please do not react to them, but report the relevant post.

Under each post (picture, calendar entry etc.) there is a button to report this post to us moderators. The report can be accompanied by a note:

Block User

The last option is to block another user. As a result, you will no longer see their posts and they will not be able to contact you. To block a user, you must first go to their profile. To do this, simply click on the user name to go to the user's profile page. There is a menu here:

In this menu, select the item "Block" to prevent this user's content and contact.

Edit already blocked users

In the Control Centre under Settings and Privacy, there is a menu item Blocked Users. Here you can edit the type of blocking. Simply click on the pencil on the right:

Reporting a user

To do this, open the user profile of the user - by clicking on the user name of the user you want to report. The user profile opens. Go to the following menu and select "Report user profile":

To use pictures or other files in posts, we offer a separate upload function. Below the input field you will find the item "File attachments". After "File attachments" has been selected, the "Upload" button becomes visible. This must be selected in order to select the corresponding file on the computer or smartphone/tablet.

Below the "Upload" button is information on which file formats are permitted and up to what number of files and images can be uploaded. Incidentally, images are automatically reduced in size so that raw data / high-resolution images can also be used or uploaded. If only files were uploaded (e.g. a PDF), then nothing further needs to be done. If images have been uploaded, you can then submit the post or topic - but you can also place the images in the text or display them as a preview or full screen. More on this in the following section.

If you have uploaded one or more images, they will be listed under "File attachments". You can now save the post or place images in various places in the post.

To place the picture at an appropriate place in the contribution: To do this, move the cursor to the appropriate place in the post text (smartphone / tablet: tap the place) and click on either "Insert preview" or "Insert original" under the corresponding image.

Insert preview: The image is inserted in a smaller version. The other users can then click on the preview image to open it in full size. Insert original: The image is inserted so that it can be seen in its entirety.

External image servers and upload services

The PFF is also a kind of archive that offers valuable help to users many years later. Images and files are important here - and if these images or files are no longer available in contributions after a certain time, the benefit is greatly lost.

For this reason, we decided a long time ago that we do not support external image uploads or external servers for providing images and data. These external images will not be displayed as an image, but only as a link in the post. In case of disregard we reserve the right to block the user. In this case it makes more sense for us to have no posts than posts that have an "expiry time" due to external images. Thank you very much.

We ask for your understanding and attention.

To get in touch with other users, you can write messages. To do so, click on the speech bubble at the top right and select the plus sign (marked red in the graphic):

In the next screen, the message title, recipient and the actual message must be entered. Click on "Send" to send the message via the PFF. The user receives a notification via the PFF that he has received a new message.

Sending a message via the user profile

The second way to send a message is via the user profile. To do this, click on the user name of the user who is to receive a message. The user profile opens. Go to the following menu and select "Start conversation":

Signature: Text that is displayed under each post.

Avatar: User image that is displayed in posts, messages, etc. in relation to one's own account.

Signature and Avatar image can be edited under Settings. To do this, open the control centre at the top right and then select "Settings and Privacy":

How can I follow users?

To do this, the user profile of the user must be opened - by clicking on the user name of the user you want to follow. The user profile opens. Go to the following menu and select "Follow":

The PFF has been providing a free platform for Porsche drivers to exchange ideas for over 20 years. It's not unusual to be told that someone wouldn't drive a Porsche without the PFF - which is the nicest compliment for us.

A platform of this size requires a lot of time and commitment. In order to provide access to all interested parties, there is no so-called "pay barrier" or anything similar. We want to keep access to "Porsche Knowledge" free and simple.

There are two ways in which the PFF is financed:

1. Indirectly through advertising that you see. Advertising revenue is generated through the banners, which ensures that the PFF will be available in the future.
2. Direct support through Premium Membership. By paying a monthly fee you support the PFF and don't see any advertising (ad-free).

Many thanks to all the users who appreciate and support the PFF - either directly through the above-mentioned premium membership or indirectly through the banners. This is your way of expressing your appreciation for us and our work.

The problem with political issues is that politics and the media have been ideologically charging topics for some time. This makes a normal exchange of different arguments more difficult; there is often only good and bad, right and wrong. This makes our moderation much more difficult, especially as it is not in our interest that conflicts or divisions form within the users. After all, PFF is supposed to be a place by and for Porsche enthusiasts.

But - we are also aware that there are current developments that affect us very clearly (war, inflation etc.). And therefore it is not realistic to keep these topics completely out of the PFF. We expressly ask for a respectful discussion. We can certainly do this better than our media: there are different people, different circumstances and therefore different views. We can discuss with each other respectfully, even if we don't agree. And if it really gets personal - please don't get into it, but report the post.

The PFF is very large and reaches about 60% of Porsche drivers in Germany. Therefore, we are also interesting for companies and service providers. For companies, there are various ways to present themselves at PFF.

Unfortunately, there are always attempts to circumvent this. Be it through direct action by the companies in the forum or through third parties who approach this consciously or unconsciously, through advertising contributions, discount or collection campaigns. This damages the quality of the PFF and ultimately deprives us of our economic basis. Please report it to us if you see it in PFF.

In the case of polls, we don't know whether they actually come from students or from professional opinion research institutes. And in the end, a survey among Porsche drivers is also interesting for the Porsche competition. It is not absurd and we would indirectly harm Porsche.

That is why we have decided to stop the following:

• Discount campaigns
• Collective orders
• Surveys

We are aware that there are always legitimate concerns. Please contact us in advance (see "Contact" at the bottom of the page).

In order to deposit your Porsche or several Porsches, you have to click on your avatar in the upper right corner of the control center (number 1). Then select "Edit profile" (number 2):

Now you are in your own profile. Under the "My Garage" tab, you can store your own Porsche vehicles individually. The sorting order is also determined here.

The stored Porsches are displayed directly in the profile and in every post. In this way, everyone can see directly which Porsche one drives, which is often an important hint in case of questions. An exemplary image is selected for the model series. At a later date it will be possible to store your own image.

Below the vehicles, you can also enter your own Porsche Center.

A new discussion, also called a topic or thread, can be started at any time. This is necessary if there is not yet an existing topic on your concern. If there is already a topic that is similar, then you can add a reply in this topic. See below for more information.

To start a new topic, you must first go to the appropriate section. In the forum there are different model areas and also areas for specific topics. Important: Only in the right area can it be ensured that as many experts as possible read the topic and give appropriate help. For example, topics concerning the Porsche 991 belong in the Porsche 991 etc. section.

Note: A post or topic can be edited for 30 minutes after it has been written, but not after that. This period can be used to improve the post and correct any errors. Once a post has been removed, it can no longer be changed. There is a risk that subsequent posts will no longer make sense and that entire discussion processes will be disrupted. We want to avoid this. For this reason, we do not remove contributions even on request. We ask for your understanding.

Please make sure that a topic does not become too "off topic" (OT) or contain different topics. This means when a discussion strays too far from the actual topic. Such "topic dumps" do not arise out of malicious intent, but simply out of ignorance. For example, a topic on tyre issues suddenly turns into a topic about the new PCM and then Porsche's new sales strategy is discussed.

Please avoid this for two reasons:

1. For example, you ask a question about buying advice in an existing topic that is actually about wheels. Other users who could have helped you with the buying advice, but find a topic about wheels uninteresting, will never see your question - and so valuable input to your question is missing. However, if your question had been posted under a new, appropriate topic title, it would be read and considered more. The posts that now follow in the "wrong" topic and may be valuable for other users become a kind of "landfill". They lie hidden and are no longer of much use, because...
2. ...the PFF is also a kind of Porsche Archive. That means that even years after their creation, many topics are still interesting for other users. However, in order to be able to find suitable topics via the search function, the topic content should match the original topic title. Otherwise, valuable tips and comments may no longer be found because they are "hidden" in an inappropriate topic title. And we thus have a "topic dump".

Please take this advice to heart and open a new topic for new questions and aspects.

If you subscribe to a topic or a category, you will be informed about new events in this area. When ignoring, events from this area (post or entire category) are no longer displayed or only partially displayed to you, depending on the selection.

First you have to go to the exact area (category or topic). Then click on the "Subscribe" button at the top right:

Quoting an entire post

To reply to a previous post, you can use that post as a quote and then reply to it. To do this, click on the inverted commas at the bottom right of the post you want to quote:

The complete post will now be inserted into the message field so that you can write your own message below it:

Quote one or more paragraphs from one or more posts

You can also select only one or more sections to quote. You can even do this from different posts. There is also a kind of virtual repository for quotations, which you can use when writing your own message.

But step by step... In order to file a quotation, you first have to mark the corresponding place. A selection then appears automatically:

If you want to use this quote directly in a new message, click on "Insert quote". If you want to collect further quotations, select "Save quotation".

If quotes have been saved, i.e. placed on the clipboard, a corresponding button appears at the bottom right. This also shows how many citations are currently on the clipboard:

To manage or use the citations, you must click the button:

In our example, there is only one citation in the clipboard. You can now select them individually or paste them all together. The respective comments must then be placed under the quotation.

Until August 2022, we had a marketplace within the pages of the PFF. This was very actively used for Porsche vehicles and parts. In order to further develop the marketplace, it had to be moved to an independent platform. On 22.08.2022, the PFF Marketplace was thus spun off and since then can be found as an independent Porsche Marketplace at this address:

Ferdineo can be linked to an existing account in the PFF. This identifies sellers who are also registered in the PFF. However, it is basically an independent marketplace.

Some of you may have noticed that the green in the Ferdineo logo is based on the "Irish green" of Porsche. This was Ferry Porsche's favourite colour. Many of Ferry Porsche's cars were in Irish green and had beige interiors. That is why these two colours are also found in our logo. And last but not least, the name of our new ("neo") Porsche Marketplace is intended to be somewhat reminiscent of the persons Ferdinand and Ferry respectively.

What distinguishes Ferdineo from the old marketplace?

Ferdineo already offers some advantages over our previous marketplace. For example, there are numerous filter options for searching for Porsche vehicles. Almost all specific features have been created in our marketplace (PCM, Sport Chrono Package, PDK, Sportomatic, Targa, sunroof, etc.) and are displayed individually for each vehicle. Ads can thus be created in more detail and then filtered to fit exactly.

In the parts section, it is now finally possible to search for parts in different categories on a model-specific basis. For example, you are looking for parts only for the Porsche 928? That is possible with Ferdineo.

Registration is easy and free of charge. To do so, go to www.ferdineo.com and click on the "Register" button at the top right of the menu. Then simply follow the further instructions.

After a check by us, the registration will be activated manually and you can start placing ads immediately. The optional link to the PFF will be requested during the process.

This is an important point, because the special feature of the old PFF marketplace was the trust that people have in each other in the PFF. It makes a difference whether you buy something from a complete stranger or whether you can see how long the seller has been registered in the PFF, which topics he participates in and how, etc.

Ferdineo can be linked directly to the PFF. When registering with Ferdineo, you were asked whether you would like to link your account to the PFF. You can then see who has posted offers as a PFF member and who they are. On Ferdineo in the advertisements and in the seller's account, as well as in the PFF in the user's profile and posts, there is then a reference to the PFF or to Ferdineo.
